This past Tuesday, Wildcat Coach Ryan put this UofA Naval ROTC group through an awesome high-energy PT session.

The athletes from the NROTC worked in groups of three. One person did the movements prescribed in the workout, one person did an “active rest activity” such as an Elbow Plank, a Dumbbell Overhead Hold, and a Wall Sit, and one person just stood there resting…

Surprise! This means that instead of 2/3 Rest, this workout is really 2/3 Work!

Here is one of the workouts that the NROTC from the U of A did this past Tuesday morning:

As Many Rounds as Possible in 8 minutes of:
5 Box Jumps or Step Ups
10 Kettlebell Swings
Active Rest: Dumbbell Overhead hold

Here are some other photos from last Fall, when another time a large group of athletes came in to workout with Coach Ryan. This group of athletes was from the UofA’s Army ROTC Program. They started the ROTC trend by coming in last fall to workout with Coach Ryan in lieu of their morning PT workout.

As you can see, the two groups who have arrived to workout together recently, from the UofA Army and Naval ROTC Programs, have been pretty high-level athletic performers…

But as you know, CrossFit workouts are scaleable for any fitness level, and most workouts even have some rest built in!

No matter where you are at on the spectrum between sickness – wellness – and fitness, everyone does better when they workout with a group.
