Wildcat CrossFit will host and judge qualifier workouts each week during the “Open”. On five successive Saturdays beginning February 25, we will run an open gym from 2-4 pm for those who want to do the qualifying workouts. See details from the main-site below:

“The 2012 season starts on February 22 with the five-week, five-workout CrossFit Games Open. Everyone in the world is invited to participate to see how they stack up. Tens of thousands of athletes from every continent will visit affiliates and submit videos in the quest to prove their fitness.

The Open is a worldwide competition consisting of five workouts over five weeks. Last year, more than 26,000 athletes competed, and this year will likely be a multiple of that!

Each week, the workout will be announced on Wednesday at 5 p.m. PT (starting February 22). Everyone will have until the following Sunday at 5 p.m. PT to complete that week’s workout and submit their score. You can do the workout at your local affiliate or film your attempt from any gym, a garage, or park.

Once you submit your workouts to the Games site, you’ll be able to find your rank, both worldwide and in your region. You get one point for each place (i.e. five points for 5th place) for each workout. Your overall score is the sum of all the workout scores, and lowest total points wins. You can compete both as an Individual and on a Team. Individuals are divided between men and women, and Masters are divided by gender and age.

The individual athletes and teams that perform the best across the five Open workouts, in each of the 17 regions, will be invited to compete at the second stage of the Games, the Regionals. The top 20 Masters in each age and gender category will earn an automatic spot at the Games in July.

The top 60 men and women from each region will be invited to compete at the Regionals from April 27 to May 27. There are also divisions for Masters and Teams. Then, only the very best from each region qualify for the 2012 Reebok CrossFit Games.”

Let your hunger mechanism heal. When you are “fat adapted” your hunger will be a reliable guide that will lead you to a lean body. During the first week or so though, you may be hungry a lot. You are becoming fat adapted, that is, your body is becoming efficient at accessing your bodyfat and using it for energy. Until this adaptation happens, your hunger may still be guided by blood sugar swings. Don’t let yourself get overly hungry. Eat when you feel hungry, even if that is every two hours.

One of the great benefits of eating like our ancestors is the ability to skip meals without discomfort. But this will come later. Pack paleo snacks.

The Paleo Diet, the Primal Diet, Ancestral Nutrition, and the Hunter-Gatherer Diet all articulate an approach to eating that is congruent with our physiology, a diet that is high in nutrient density and low in toxins and gut irritants. The diet is simple and delicious. On Thursday Jan. 5th at 7:00pm I’ll be giving a lecture about ancestral nutrition theory and application. That is, what are the physiological reasons and benefits of eating this way, and how to implement these dietary changes.

Schedule:

January 5th, Thursday at 7:00pm: Paleo Lecture

January 9th, Monday: Start the 30 day Challenge

Wildcat CrossFit delivers $768. Thanks to everyone who participated last Saturday Dec. 10th in the first annual “Will Workout for Food” fundraiser to benefit the Tucson Community Food Bank. 25 Wildcat members did 20 rounds of “Cindy”, a workout consisting of rounds of 5 pull-ups, 10 push-ups, and 15 squats. Thanks to sponsons who pledged money per round and for those who made other donations. In addition to the $768, a huge box of food was collected. Congratulations to Meredith who won a free massage and month of CrossFit for raising the most money. Special thanks to Suzanne C. who had the idea of raising money for the food bank and getting The Gotes to play live music at the event. The Gotes rocked it and raised the energy of the workout to insane levels. Dont’t worry if you missed it, stick around and we’ll do it again next year.
